If you smell gas, you should immediately put out all smoking materials and any open flames. In addition, do not operate any cell phones, land line telephones, appliances or lights as flames or sparks from these sources may trigger a fire or explosion. If you smell propane that you suspect may be leaking, immediately leave the area and get everyone out of the area or the building where you suspect that gas might be leaking. Once you leave the area, you should locate and shut off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank, if it is safe to do so.
Once you've exited the area and are safely away from the source of the propane gas smell, you should report the leak immediately from a neighbor's home or other location by calling Shaner Propane immediately. If you can't reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local the fire department immediately. More than anything, don't return to the building until your propane retailer or fire department has determined that it is safe to do so.
Finally, you should always have a trained and qualified service technician from your local propane retailer perform a complete system check and any of your propane appliances to be sure they are free of leaks before you attempt using them.
